Helping our nation's four legged, heroes one dog at a time!
The Retired Military Working Dog Assistance Organization (RMWDAO), was started in October of 2011 by RMWDAO CEO Lisa P. Phillips. RMWDAO was formed after a push to get the military to reclassify Military Working Dogs from “excess equipment” to “canine service members” and to help get Military Working Dogs Medical Benefits after retirement. RMWDAO is a nonprofit organization that takes donations to help cover those medical costs after a MWD retires, so that tax dollars aren’t used.

Retired Military Working Dog Assistance Organization’s goal is to (1) educate the public about the benefits to our Armed Forces of Military Working Dogs; (2) help financially with medical bills, transportation and any other necessary requirements for the health and well being of retired Military Working Dogs; and (3) facilitate the adoption of retired Military  Working Dogs.

Retired Military Working Dog Assistance Organization (RMWDAO) is a non-profit organization based out ofUniversal City, Texas. RMWDAO is dedicated to helping our Nations retired military working dogs live a better, more comfortable life after they have finished serving our country’s needs.

RMWDAO was founded in October 2011, by RMWDAO CEO Lisa Phillips. Lisa has teamed up with several otherMilitary Working Dog (MWD) advocates, to help our nation’s four legged heroes have the retirement they deserve.

RMWDAO’s long term goal is to be able to provide much needed financial aid for transportation and medical bills that become costly after adopting a retired MWD. Most MWDs are retired for medical reasons such as PTSD and require many veterinary visits once they have completed their service in the military. The majority of MWDs retiring are between the ages of 10 and 12 years old and have various special needs. With today’s economic financial hardships, it becomes an expensive responsibility owning one of these heroes. To help facilitate more adoptions of retiring MWDs, RMWDAO is here to provide support for medical bills and transportation to their forever homes.

RMWDAO is in what we like to call the “Puppy Faze”. We are a brand new organization and to help build a strong foundation we have assembled an extraordinary team of MWD advocates. In addition to having a strong foundation, we are currently pending our 501c3 tax exemption status. We are out and about, getting the community involved and educating more people on the wonder of our nation’s K9 heroes. Our goal for the 2012 year is to raise enough donations to allow us to help retired MWDs with medical bills as soon as they retire.

Our organization’s goal it to be able to start helping our first retired MWD by January 2013! This will take a lot of help from the community. The more donations we can take in this year the more likely we are to meeting our goal for 2013.

Too many times people have signed up to commit their home to a retiring MWD and then found the medical finances too much of a burden. This causes them to break their commitment to provide a forever home for this retired MWD. As a result, some MWDs get passed from home to home, due to inexperience with handling these special warriors. RMWDAO, believes ifwe can help take some of that financial worry off of their shoulders, more good people will be able to provide the caring homes these dogs need.
